Asian Catholic Initiative Mission Statement

The Asian Catholic Initiative (ACI) of the Archdiocese of Chicago is an outreach program responding to the call of Jesus Christ. Empowered by the Holy Spirit its goal is to provide a link between the archdiocese and all Asian Catholics. It provides the opportunity for the archdiocese and local churches to listen and respond to the strengths, challenges and needs of this diverse community. The Office is responsible for implementing the Archdiocese of Chicago's mission and vision of a multi-cultural Church, especially in celebrating the various unique Catholic traditions of each ethnic group. Asian Catholic Initiative is under the Department of Parish Life and Formation of the archdiocese.

Background:

Most first generation Asian Catholics here in the United States are immigrants. They have brought with them the rich Catholic traditions and practices that make worship a profound and enriching way of life. Every group has its unique joyful, reverent and prayerful celebration of the Eucharist, which reflects God’s saving love. They promote strong ministries as well as enrich every aspect of Parish life. The Catholic Asian population in the archdiocese  (4.5%) includes immigrants and refugees from Burma, Cambodia, China, Hongkong, India, Indonesia,  Japan, Korea,  Laos,  Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri-Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand,  and Vietnam.
